Asanko Gold Ghana Limited has partnered with the Amansie West District Assembly to support ongoing road rehabilitation works aimed at easing transport difficulties and boosting economic activity in the area.
The mining firm has provided a cheque for GHS200,000 to address critical fuel shortages that have hampered the operation of road maintenance equipment under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).
Rising fuel costs have recently slowed progress on road reshaping and rehabilitation works across several communities within the district.
District officials say the support will help speed up repairs on access routes that have long made travel difficult, affecting education, healthcare delivery, and local commerce.
Amansie West District Coordinating Director, Mr. Okrah Thomas Kwame, noted that poor road conditions continue to discourage essential workers from accepting postings in the area.
“Many teachers, nurses, and even security personnel leave because of the poor roads. This intervention by Asanko Gold will go a long way to ease some of these challenges,” he said.
Mr. Kwame described the gesture as a collaborative effort between the Assembly, Asanko Gold, and community leaders to strengthen local development initiatives.
Traditional authorities have welcomed the support, describing it as timely and essential.
Nana Kwesi Okoh II, Chief of Manso-Tetrem, said improved road networks would enhance the movement of people and goods, stimulating economic growth and improving living standards.
“Better roads mean easier access for traders, farmers, and service providers. The community has waited long for this intervention,” Nana Okoh remarked.
Despite the Assembly’s own road improvement efforts, progress has remained uneven due to financial constraints. The latest private-sector partnership seeks to fill those gaps and complement ongoing government initiatives.
Mr. Jerry Duah, Stakeholder Engagement Unit Manager at Asanko Gold, emphasized that the company’s involvement is part of a broader commitment to sustainable development within its operational areas.
“This is not a handout. It is a deliberate investment to support government capacity and deliver measurable impact,” he said, adding that reliable road infrastructure will enhance mobility, support economic activity, and improve safety for residents and workers alike.
The partnership aligns with Asanko Gold’s continuing efforts to contribute to local infrastructure development.
The company has previously supported road rehabilitation projects in the Amansie South District and plans to extend similar assistance to other host communities within its catchment area.
Officials believe the intervention will not only reduce travel time but also demonstrate how effective public-private collaboration can help address infrastructure challenges in mining regions.
