Sam George Urges Ghanaians to Participate in Upcoming SIM Re-Registration Exercise

Government moves to enhance security and improve data integrity in telecom sector

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has called on Ghanaians to actively participate in the upcoming nationwide SIM card re-registration exercise.

According to the Minister, the initiative forms part of government efforts to strengthen national security, eliminate fraud, and improve the credibility of subscriber data across the telecommunications sector.

He emphasised that the new registration process will introduce stricter verification measures, including biometric validation and integration with the National Identification Authority database, to ensure accurate identification of SIM card users.

Mr. George also assured the public that the exercise would be more efficient and user-friendly than previous attempts, with measures such as self-service options designed to reduce congestion and long queues.

The Minister noted that challenges encountered in earlier registration exercises, including data inconsistencies and weak enforcement systems, have informed the design of the new process, which aims to restore confidence in the system.

He further urged all mobile phone users to comply with the directive when the exercise begins, stressing that broad participation is essential to achieving its intended impact.

The SIM re-registration exercise is expected to play a key role in Ghana’s digital transformation agenda while enhancing security within the telecommunications space.
