GFA Reassures Public Amid Middle East Tensions Over Black Queens’ Safety

Football authorities engage government and security agencies as women’s team camps in UAE.

Story:
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has assured the public that it is closely monitoring the security situation in the Middle East following recent developments that have raised concerns over the safety of the Black Queens.

The women’s national team is currently in the United Arab Emirates as part of preparations for an upcoming international tournament. In response to the concerns, GFA President Kurt Okraku met with the players to appeal for calm and reassure them of the Association’s full support.

According to the GFA, the past 24 to 48 hours have seen active engagements with key stakeholders to determine the most appropriate course of action. These include Ghana’s diplomatic mission in the UAE, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Association’s security advisers.

In a show of government support, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, have both reached out to the team to express national solidarity during the period.

The GFA has urged the public to remain calm, stressing that the situation is under constant review and that updates will be communicated should there be any significant changes.

The Black Queens have been in the UAE for about a week as part of their build-up toward the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
