Rans Logistics has refunded GH¢19.1 million to the state after it was cited for overpayments linked to the transportation of grains, according to Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem. The disclosure was made during proceedings at the Public Accounts Committee on Monday, March 30, as officials discussed findings from the Auditor-General’s report on GH¢68 billion in arrears.
Addressing the committee, Mr Ampem said the development offers early evidence that the audit exercise is beginning to have a direct impact. He explained that after the findings were presented to Parliament on March 10, and referred for further scrutiny, one of the companies named in the report moved quickly to respond.
According to the Deputy Minister, Rans Logistics was identified in the audit as having received excess payment for transporting grains. He said the company refunded the GH¢19.1 million exactly one week after the report was laid before Parliament, describing the move as a practical example of why the audit was necessary.
However, the minister stressed that the refund does not fully settle all the issues raised in the audit. He noted that the report also cited the company over the receipt of more than 7,000 metric tonnes of rice beyond what was expected, adding that the state is still expecting the value of that quantity to be recovered as well.
Mr Ampem further revealed that the Attorney-General is currently working with his team to determine the appropriate legal and administrative action in relation to all the infractions uncovered. He said the latest refund reinforces the relevance of the Auditor-General’s work in protecting public resources and ensuring accountability in the use of state funds.
