President John Dramani Mahama has held high-level discussions with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi aimed at strengthening Ghana-UAE relations, with a major focus on energy investment, oil and gas cooperation, and sustainable development.
The meeting, which took place on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi, centred on a proposed strategic partnership to transform Ghana’s energy sector through increased collaboration and UAE investment.
According to President Mahama, both countries agreed to deepen cooperation in the oil and gas industry, particularly in the area of storage infrastructure development in Ghana.
“Our discussions centred on a strategic partnership to transform Ghana’s energy landscape,” President Mahama stated.
“We have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the oil and gas sector, with a specific focus on UAE investment in storage facilities within Ghana,” he added.

The discussions also focused on Ghana’s efforts to diversify its energy portfolio and reduce dependence on crude oil as part of broader plans to achieve long-term energy security.
President Mahama said both countries explored opportunities in cleaner and alternative energy sources to support sustainable economic growth and innovation.
Beyond energy and investment, the meeting addressed international security concerns, particularly the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The Ghanaian leader reaffirmed Ghana’s solidarity with the UAE and called for an end to hostilities in the region.

“We are united in our determination to see a swift end to hostilities so the world can focus on sustainable development, innovation, and Artificial Intelligence,” President Mahama said.
The meeting reflects growing cooperation between Ghana and the UAE as both countries seek to strengthen diplomatic ties, expand economic partnerships and promote investment-led development.

Analysts say increased collaboration with Gulf states could provide Ghana with new opportunities in infrastructure financing, energy transformation and technology-driven growth.
The engagement concluded with renewed commitments from both leaders to deepen bilateral relations and pursue initiatives that support economic stability, innovation and long-term development.
