The Government of Ghana has begun arrangements to evacuate its citizens from Qatar as tensions continue to rise across parts of the Middle East.
In a notice issued on March 15, the Ghana Embassy in Doha announced that it is preparing an emergency evacuation exercise for Ghanaians who wish to return home due to the evolving security situation in the region.
According to the embassy, the evacuation will be conducted strictly as a one-way arrangement from Qatar to Ghana. Nationals interested in the exercise have been asked to reconfirm their participation by submitting the biodata page of their passports via email.
Authorities have set a deadline of March 17 for interested individuals to send the required documents to the embassy to facilitate planning for the operation.
The mission explained that the decision follows earlier communications about the evolving security climate in the region and is being undertaken as a precautionary measure to safeguard Ghanaian citizens abroad.
The directive comes amid heightened tensions across the Middle East, where escalating hostilities and military activity have raised security concerns for foreign nationals living in several Gulf countries.
Ghana’s diplomatic mission has therefore urged all Ghanaians currently residing in Qatar who wish to take part in the evacuation to respond promptly in order to assist authorities in coordinating the exercise effectively.
Officials say the move forms part of broader contingency measures to ensure the safety of Ghanaian nationals in the region as the situation continues to develop.
