Asante Kotoko suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to Karela United in their Ghana Premier League encounter at the Aliu Mahama Stadium, extending the Porcupine Warriors’ difficult run in Tamale.
The result means Kotoko are yet to record a victory in the northern city since 2017, with the latest defeat adding to their struggles whenever they play there.
The game turned dramatically late in the first half when Kotoko defender Henry Ansu was shown a red card in the 40th minute, reducing the Kumasi-based side to ten men.
Karela quickly took advantage of the numerical superiority, scoring the decisive goal shortly afterwards to take the lead before the halftime break.
Despite efforts to respond in the second half, Kotoko were unable to find an equaliser, as Karela held on to secure all three points.
The defeat further dents Kotoko’s recent league form. The Porcupine Warriors have now lost three of their last five league matches, with their only win in that period coming in a 2–0 victory over Young Apostles FC.
Kotoko will now look to bounce back in their next league fixture when they face city rivals Nations FC on Sunday, March 22.
