Court hears claims of pre-financing in ongoing GH¢49.1 million cybersecurity trial.

Witness Says Adu-Boahene Funded National Security Operations Ahead of Reimbursements

A second prosecution witness in the ongoing trial involving former National Signals Bureau Director, Kwabena Adu‑Boahene, has told the court that the accused sometimes prefinanced special operations for national security activities.

Testifying before the Accra High Court, the witness, who serves as Head of Finance at the National Signals Bureau, stated that Adu-Boahene occasionally provided funds in advance to support urgent operational activities when official funds had not yet been released.

According to the witness, such arrangements occurred during emergencies where national security personnel needed immediate resources to carry out assignments. In those situations, Adu-Boahene reportedly stepped in to cover the costs until government funds became available.

During cross-examination, defence counsel Samuel Atta Akyea presented documents, including cheques allegedly signed by both Adu-Boahene and the late former National Security Coordinator Joshua Kyeremeh. The lawyer argued that the funds in question were authorized for special security operations. The witness confirmed that the cheques were connected to operational financing.

The case forms part of a wider trial involving an alleged GH¢49.1 million cybersecurity contract. Adu-Boahene and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, are facing multiple charges including stealing, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state.

The court has adjourned proceedings to continue cross-examination of the prosecution’s witness on March 17 and 18.
