Additional Black Stars Technical Staff to Receive Allowances, Not Salaries

Sports Minister clarifies terms of engagement ahead of World Cup preparations

The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has clarified that the five newly appointed members of the Ghana national football team technical team will receive allowances rather than monthly salaries.

The additions include French tactician Alain Ravera, Ghana women’s national football team coach Kim Lars Björkegren, video analyst José Daniel Martínez, team physiotherapist Carlos Lozano Romero, and performance coach Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi.

They are expected to work alongside head coach Otto Addo beginning with the March international break and continuing through the World Cup tournament.

Allowances and Bonuses

In an interview with CitiSports, Mr Adams explained that the new technical team members will benefit from allowances and other entitlements available to team officials but will not be placed on fixed monthly salaries.

“None of them is on a salary, but they will benefit from some of the allowances that are paid to the team, and these additions are just for the World Cup,” he said.

He added that the officials will also be entitled to winning bonuses and per diems, as well as other services provided to all team members, but reiterated that they are not salaried staff.

Upcoming Friendlies

Ghana will play Austria national football team on March 27 at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna, before facing Germany national football team on March 30 in Stuttgart.

The Black Stars will then travel to North America for a friendly against Mexico national football team on May 22 at a venue yet to be confirmed.

World Cup Campaign

At the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Ghana will open their Group L campaign against Panama national football team on June 17, before taking on England national football team and Croatia national football team.

The expanded technical team is expected to bolster Ghana’s preparations as the Black Stars aim to make a strong impression at the global tournament.
