Kotoko FA Cup Exit ‘Embarrassing’ — Assistant Coach Prince Owusu

Defending champions crash out as pressure mounts on Porcupine Warriors ahead of Hearts clash

Asante Kotoko assistant head coach Prince Owusu has described the club’s elimination from the MTN FA Cup as embarrassing following their 4–2 defeat to Aduana Stars in the Round of 16 at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Kotoko, who entered the competition as defending champions, saw their title defense come to an abrupt end, further deepening concerns around the club’s current form. The Porcupine Warriors are also struggling in the Ghana Premier League, where they sit fifth on the table.

Speaking after the match, Prince Owusu admitted the performance fell short of expectations. He noted that while the players made an effort, it was not enough on the day.

“It means a lot to us as defending champions. The way things went was not good enough — it was embarrassing,” Owusu said. “The boys tried, but it was not enough.”

He acknowledged the pressure that comes with representing Kotoko, stressing that fans demand consistent success from the club.

“It’s Kotoko — we want to win and we have to win. The fans expect more than what they’ve seen, so I cannot say we’ve done a good job,” he added.

Kotoko will now shift focus to the Ghana Premier League as they prepare for a high-profile clash against archrivals Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday, February 15, at the Baba Yara Stadium.
